While BMW presented us a few weeks ago the M3, M4 and M5 Competition which will serve as Safety-Car in Moto GP, Mini presents us another one. Or almost … But what does it correspond to?
Mini has released a mysterious teaser image of an electric car that can serve as a safety car in a racing championship. This image was posted on Twitter with the following caption: “It feels like it’s time for a little help. Watch this place … # ElectricThrillMaximised ». Very few details of the car are visible in the teaser but by increasing the brightness of the image some key features emerge.
For starters, the Electric Mini in question clearly has a reinforced diffuser and a central fog light installed in the middle of that diffuser. The small electric can also be seen a pair of flared wheel arches which are apparently even wider than those of the John Cooper Works GP. The car also features flashing red lights behind the rear window and a green and yellow light bar on the roof, the most obvious sign that this is a safety car.
In December, Mini has confirmed working on an all-electric variant that will be badged John Cooper Works GP and posted photos of a prototype wearing the exact same body as the heat-engine GP. It is possible that the safety car presented in this teaser is a more developed version of the electric JCW GP, or in any case closer to the production model.
It remains to be seen which of the electric motors that BMW has in its lineup will be used by the “zero emission” GP, although it is possible that the car in question could use two electric motors, giving it all-wheel drive. No one knows the bottom line yet, but we can’t wait to find out what’s going on!
